Dr. Chi’s recs on what to do and see

If I were BTS’ chingu, I would tell them that when they are in Chicago, they MUST do these things. I am from Chicago and I grew up down the street from Wrigley Field.

(Forgive the spelling/ grammar issues. I have to catch a flight for a funeral in Chicago. If it weren’t such sad times, maybe I would’ve even seen you at the concert but c’est la vie.)

• DuSable Museum

  They clearly need to know more about Black history so they stop having major gaffes like depicting Howard University like a PWI and learn what the hell is a PWI. In America, everything, EVERYTHING is about race. As people who have taken so much from Black culture, it behooves you to know more about Black history and culture. Black people have enough cultural leeches and don’t need more of those. So be better by doing better.

• Obama Library

  I’m sure you can get a private viewing. And you should.

• Go to the beach. The further north you go, the beaches are less busy. I’m sure you can get some alone time earlier in the day.

  
  

  Then I would give them my regular list of fave things to do in Chicago List that I give to all my other chingus.

• Lou Malnati's or Giordano's for deep dish pizza (I prefer Giordano’s)

• Uncle Remus (for chicken); People who are not in the know will tell you to go to Harold's Chicken Shack. But since you’re my friend, I will hook you up with the truth.

• Perilla for Korean (every now and again, you want to eat food from your native land. I get it. It’s I was in Spain in June eating West African food when I could’ve had more tapas or paella.)

• Stan's donuts and coffee (my favorites are the pistachio and the blueberry donuts)

• Cycling on Lake Michigan

• Chicago Cultural Center (downtown) for cool exhibits

• Harold Washington Library is nice to look at (downtown)

• Mexican American Art Museum

• Little Village for excellent Mexican food (Los Comales is a classic)

• Dynamic or Bisi’s for Nigerian food

• Willis Tower (Sears Tower)

• Shopping on Michigan Avenue

• Architecture tour on the Chicago River. You’ll be grateful you did it.

• Museum of contemporary art

• Art Institute is known for its Impressionist collection

• Museum of Science and Industry

• Shedd Aquarium.

• Navy Pier Ferris wheel

• Wrigley Field (where the Chicago Cubs play)

• Gino's East for Chicago tavern style pizza (thin crust)

• Nordic food: Tre Kronor. Get your Swedish food on in Andersonville.

If you made it to the end, I have to let you know that there is a house music party that happens once every summer that is taking place on Sunday. It’s going to be full of Gen X people dancing outside and it’s going to be marvelous. Only one or two of you guys should go so that you’re inconspicuous though. It’ll be lit.
